Poland Scrambles Fighter Jets After Russian Mi-8 Briefly Enters Its Airspace
Poland scrambled fighter jets after a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter briefly crossed into Polish airspace near Braniewo, close to Russia’s Kaliningrad region. Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command said the helicopter entered at about 11:08 local time and remained over Polish territory for roughly 42 seconds. It reportedly travelled about 300 metres inside the border before leaving. Polish radar tracked the aircraft throughout the incident, while ground units were placed on standby. The command said the incursion may have been an attempt to test Poland’s air-defence readiness.
