Bolt Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria After Uber Announces Exit
Bolt says it will continue operating in Nigeria following Uber’s announcement that it will end operations in Nigeria and Uganda from September 2, 2026. The company said Nigeria remains a key market and pledged continued support for drivers, riders, regulators and other partners. Bolt added that it would keep expanding its services and helping to build a reliable and accessible mobility system. Uber said it is redirecting investment to African markets where it expects to create greater value and earning opportunities. Its departure could leave riders with fewer options and force drivers who relied on Uber to switch to platforms such as Bolt, LagRide and inDrive. Uber stated that its decision was unrelated to the recent disruption of e-hailing services at Nigerian airports. FAAN has since cleared Bolt to resume operations at airports under its management.
