Kogi Central Senate Ticket: Court Sets Nov. 19 for Ruling in Suit Against Yahaya Bello

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 19 to rule on a suit challenging former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s emergence as the APC senatorial candidate for Kogi Central. The suit was filed by Chief Momoh Obaro, who claims he won the May 18 APC primary and that Bello was not properly screened or cleared to contest. Obaro also alleges that Bello withdrew from the race before the primary and asks the court to compel the APC to submit his name to INEC. Bello denies the allegations, saying he won the primary with 72,999 votes while Obaro came third with 188 votes. The APC and INEC also asked the court to dismiss the case, with INEC maintaining that it monitored a primary conducted substantially in line with electoral laws.
