65-Year-Old UK Teacher Denies Charges of Tying 10-Year-Old Pupil to Bed for Alleged Sexual Abuse

A former preparatory school teacher has appeared at St Albans Crown Court accused of multiple counts of historical sexual abuse against a pupil under the age of 14. Deborah Franklin, 65, of Radlett, Hertfordshire, denies eight counts of gross indecency that allegedly took place between 1991 and 1995. The complainant, now in his 40s, told jurors he became Franklin’s private pupil at age nine. He said their bond quickly shifted to adult conversations and that, after winning a bet, he was blindfolded, tied to a bed and abused by the teacher in his home garage and on other occasions. Prosecutors say the boy spoke about the incidents soon after they occurred and that witness statements, photographs and other evidence will be presented. Franklin remains on unconditional bail as the trial continues.
