Nigerian and Kenyan Nationals Arrested in Major Drug Bust in Kenya
On March 17, 2026, Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest of two men, one Nigerian and one Kenyan, during an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation. Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit acted on credible information about a planned drug exchange in Machakos County. When the meeting was aborted, they shifted focus to Ruaka in Kiambu County. A search at Mbuti Apartments in Ruaka yielded pellets and packages of suspected narcotics, digital scales, mobile phones, foreign passports and cash in Kenyan and Nigerian currencies. The suspects, identified as Okeke Ikechukwu (Nigerian) and Alex Opondo (Kenyan), were taken to Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations for processing. Exhibits are now secured for forensic analysis as investigations continue.
