Russia Suspected in Series of Attacks on European Defence Firms
European officials are investigating a series of fires and explosions involving defence companies that supply equipment to Ukraine. Russia is suspected of carrying out a wider campaign to disrupt military support for Kyiv, although involvement has not been established in every case. The latest investigation concerns a fire at a building linked to Estonian drone maker Milrem Robotics in Tallinn. Latvian authorities have detained three people over the suspected arson. Explosions were also reported at arms facilities in Bulgaria and Italy, but officials there have not confirmed any Russian link. Western intelligence agencies say Russia may be using sabotage, cyberattacks and criminal proxies to pressure NATO members without triggering a direct confrontation. Russia has repeatedly denied responsibility for covert attacks in Europe.
