Ogun Ranks 31st in BudgIT’s 2026 State Fiscal Report as Lagos Leads
Ogun State ranked 31st out of 35 states in BudgIT’s 2026 State of States Fiscal Performance Ranking, which assessed states’ 2025 finances. Lagos topped the table, followed by Enugu, while Cross River came last. Rivers was excluded because its audited financial statements and budget implementation reports were unavailable. The report puts Ogun’s debt stock at ₦538.92 billion, the fourth-highest among the states assessed. Its scoring gives the most weight to revenue performance (40 per cent) and fiscal viability (30 per cent), followed by debt sustainability and spending on health, education, agriculture, and water and sanitation. Lagos recorded ₦1.71 trillion in internally generated revenue in 2025, while Enugu’s IGR rose to ₦407.76 billion. In the South-West, Osun ranked 32nd, Ekiti 26th, and Oyo 22nd. The report says states should focus not only on revenue but also on turning public spending into better services and measurable results. The ranking raises questions about Ogun’s revenue and debt management. The state government had not publicly responded at the time of the report.
