Why Foreign Brands Must Adapt Their Prices to Nigerian Consumers
Foreign brands entering Nigeria often assume popularity abroad will automatically translate into sales. But Nigerian consumers weigh price against the real value a product offers. Low prices can attract buyers, but poor quality, short product life and weak after-sales support can quickly discourage them. Many customers are willing to pay more when a product is reliable, durable and easy to maintain. Brands need to consider local purchasing power, exchange-rate changes, distribution costs and competition before setting prices. A strategy that works in London may not work in Lagos. Do Nigerian consumers mainly choose the cheapest option, or will they pay more for quality and reliability?
