Timi Frank Urges US to Push for Credible 2027 Elections in Nigeria
Political activist Timi Frank has asked the United States government to engage Nigerian authorities early to help safeguard the credibility of the 2027 general elections. In an open letter to US President Donald Trump, Frank proposed visa bans, asset freezes and other targeted sanctions for electoral officials, judges and security personnel found to have participated in election manipulation. He also called for a high-level US delegation to engage Nigerian political leaders, INEC and security agencies ahead of the polls. Frank raised concerns about the composition of INEC, alleging ethnic concentration in key positions and warning that it could affect public confidence in the electoral process. He argued that credible elections could improve governance, reduce insecurity and address economic pressures driving Nigerians to migrate. He urged security agencies to remain politically neutral and protect voters regardless of party affiliation.
