Wike Says He Worked With APC Allies to Stop Obaseki’s Successor in Edo
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says he opposed PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo in the 2024 Edo governorship election to prevent former governor Godwin Obaseki from installing a successor. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Wike said an alliance involving PDP factions and the APC contributed to the APC’s victory. He said he played a role in the effort and had no regrets. Wike described Ighodalo as a good candidate but said he declined to support him because of his disagreement with Obaseki. He added that Ighodalo had visited him several times to seek his backing.
