Auctioneers’ Association Alleges Customs, MDAs Bypass Rules and Cost FG Revenue
The Nigeria Auctioneers Association has alleged that some Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, are bypassing legal procedures for disposing of seized and public assets. The association’s president, Musa Kurra, said the law requires agencies to use qualified valuers and licensed auctioneers to assess and sell such properties. He alleged that some agencies now conduct auctions through internal structures, resulting in assets being sold below their actual value. Kurra said the practice could cost the Federal Government substantial revenue from properties worth billions or trillions of naira. He urged President Bola Tinubu to investigate, saying the association is prepared to provide supporting documents. He also maintained that his leadership of the association remains legitimate despite an ongoing court dispute with a rival faction. The allegations against government agencies have not been independently verified.
