Nine Arrested After Deadly Gujungu Market Unrest and Ringim Stabbing in Jigawa
Police in Jigawa have arrested nine people over separate violent incidents, including unrest at Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area and a fatal stabbing in Ringim. Police said a dispute between a soldier and a 25-year-old trader at Gujungu Market on July 26 allegedly ended with the trader being stabbed to death. The incident reportedly triggered unrest, during which a police station was attacked, security personnel were targeted with bows and arrows, and two thatched shops were burnt. Two suspects were arrested over the market violence, while six others were detained for allegedly attacking vigilante members during the disturbance. One vigilante member died from injuries, while another is receiving treatment. Police also recovered six cows believed to have been abandoned during the unrest. In a separate case, police arrested a 20-year-old suspect after another 20-year-old was allegedly stabbed to death following an argument in Dabigel Village, Ringim LGA. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned after the cases are concluded.
