Anyim Blames PDP Zoning Decisions for South-East’s Presidential Setback
Former Senate President Pius Anyim says the PDP, not the APC, should be held responsible for the South-East’s failure to produce Nigeria’s president since 1999. Speaking on an Arise TV programme, Anyim said the PDP missed past opportunities to zone its presidential ticket to the South-East. He argued that such a decision could have rallied wider national support for a candidate from the region. Anyim said a South-East presidential bid cannot succeed through regional votes alone. According to him, political leaders in the zone must build durable alliances with other parts of Nigeria. He added that President Bola Tinubu is entitled to seek a second term and said the presidency should continue to rotate among the regions afterward.
