Tinubu Warns Regional Commissions Against Wasteful Projects
President Bola Tinubu has warned Nigeria’s Regional Development Commissions against spending public funds on poorly planned projects that offer little benefit to citizens. Speaking at the opening of the North Central Stakeholders Development Summit in Abuja, Tinubu said the commissions must pursue projects with clear goals, realistic funding plans and measurable community benefits. He also warned against corruption, political interference, marginalisation and ethnic bias in project allocation. The President directed that funds due to the commissions should be released promptly. He also urged them to attract private investment, donor support and development finance rather than relying only on government allocations. For the North Central, he listed agriculture, agro-processing, solid minerals, industrialisation, security, education and healthcare as priority areas. The summit is expected to develop a 20-year plan for the region’s economic, infrastructure and social growth.
