The Nigeria Customs Service has handed an intercepted consignment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for regulatory action. The handover took place in Calabar during an operation involving officials from both agencies. The exercise also included the auction of 245 jerrycans of petrol, totalling 6,125 litres. Customs said the fuel was intercepted at several locations, including Ekairoa, Sakansi, Abaka and Yukongo, and had a duty-paid value of ₦6.135 million. The NMDPRA coordinator said preliminary investigations had been completed and the company involved had paid the applicable administrative penalty. She added that the LPG would be handled in line with safety standards and that the agencies would continue working together to prevent illegal diversion of petroleum products.
