Two Men Get Nine Years Each for Supplying Intoxicants to Children in Kano
A Kano Magistrate Court has sentenced Kabiru Isa and Usman Hamisu to nine years’ imprisonment each for supplying rubber solution and other intoxicants to vulnerable children. The sentences will run consecutively, with no option of a fine. The court found both men guilty of criminal conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society and administering intoxicating substances. The case followed an investigation into the exposure of street-connected children around the Race Course area of Kano. The Kano State Multi-Agencies Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking said 43 children were rescued during the operation. It said the children will undergo medical and psychosocial assessment, with treatment, rehabilitation, skills training and reintegration support provided where needed. The task force said it is pursuing a wider plan to remove 10,000 vulnerable young people from harmful street environments and warned that anyone exploiting children through drug supply would be prosecuted.
