Enugu Police Hunt Bus Driver, Conductor After Assaulting Officers and Snatching Rifle

Police in Enugu have launched a manhunt for the driver and conductor of a Mitsubishi L300 commercial bus following a violent incident on July 9. At about 1:20pm near All Saints Roundabout on Abakaliki Road, operatives of the Distress Response Squad intercepted the vehicle after a report that its occupants had assaulted a traffic officer. The driver knocked down the officer and dragged his AK-47 rifle before the suspects later discarded the weapon at IMT Bus Stop and fled. The State Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation and urged the suspects to surrender. He also warned the public against obstructing or attacking officers, stressing that such acts are serious offences punishable under the law.
