Former Tottenham Defender Sebastien Bassong Convicted Over £7 Tube Fare
Former Tottenham, Newcastle and Norwich defender Sebastien Bassong has been convicted of travelling on London’s Tube without a valid ticket. He was caught tailgating a passenger through a station barrier using a travel pass that did not belong to him. Bassong was stopped at St Paul’s station on May 2. Court documents said the pass was registered to a former girlfriend of the man accompanying him. The court was told Bassong was experiencing financial and personal hardship due to divorce and unemployment. A magistrate fined him £220 and ordered him to repay the £7 fare, pay £250 in prosecution costs and an £88 surcharge. Bassong did not enter a plea and was convicted in a Single Justice Procedure hearing. He has 28 days to pay the total £565.
