Makinde Questions Tinubu’s Re-election Bid Over Power Supply

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s prospects of seeking a second term, citing remarks Tinubu made during the 2023 campaign about fixing Nigeria’s electricity supply. Speaking in Ibadan, Makinde responded to criticism over Oyo State’s use of diesel generators for some streetlights. He said states would not need to spend public funds on generators if power from the national grid were reliable. Makinde argued that Tinubu had urged Nigerians not to support him for a second term if he failed to improve electricity within his first four years. The Presidency has previously disputed interpretations of Tinubu’s campaign remarks.
