Al Jazeera Reportedly Dismisses 24 Gaza Staff Amid US Lawsuit Over Alleged Hamas Links
Al Jazeera has reportedly dismissed 24 journalists and staff who worked in Gaza, following a US lawsuit accusing the Qatari broadcaster of supporting Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The case, filed in February 2025, alleges that some named employees had ties to the groups. The Committee to Protect Journalists said it removed 20 names from its database in June after confirming that the individuals had worked for Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad. It said it does not classify people engaged in combat or inciting imminent violence as journalists. The case has renewed debate over the verification of media workers in Gaza. CPJ said independent in-person verification has been difficult because foreign journalists have been unable to enter the territory since the war began.
