Activist Urges Security Agencies to Question Wike Over Candidate-Selection Remarks
Human rights advocate Prince Saviour Iche has urged security agencies to question FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over remarks attributed to him about his political group’s capacity to produce election candidates. Iche said comments that appear to suggest politicians can determine candidates outside recognised party procedures could weaken public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process. He called for clarification, particularly as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. The call comes amid continuing factional disputes within the PDP, where competing structures in states including Plateau and Bauchi have produced rival candidates. Iche argued that party primaries must be transparent and that voters, not political power brokers, should have the final say in choosing elected representatives.
