Anambra JSC Orders Watchmen to Refund ₦1.895m Over Alleged Theft, Suspends Court Staff
The Anambra State Judicial Service Commission has directed three security watchmen to refund ₦1.895 million, described as one-third of the value of items allegedly stolen from its premises. The commission said they have three months from September 25, 2026, to pay or face suspension and possible criminal prosecution. The commission also suspended two bailiffs attached to the Nnewi Judicial Division for two months over misconduct. A cleaner was dismissed for prolonged unauthorised absence, while other staff members received reprimands, salary sanctions or refund directives over absenteeism and related breaches. The JSC said misconduct includes unauthorised absence, lateness and behaviour contrary to civil-service rules. It added that more than 300 judiciary staff have retired in the past six years and appealed for approval to recruit judges, magistrates and other personnel.
