Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Production of Fake Dry Gin

Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has arrested a 40-year-old man in Ikot Ekpene over the alleged production and distribution of adulterated alcoholic beverages. The suspect was intercepted during a stop-and-search operation on Aba Road while allegedly transporting five cartons of dry gin for delivery to Essien Udim LGA. Police said the cartons contained 120 bottles bearing suspected fake labels. Police said the suspect allegedly confessed during preliminary investigation. Officers later searched his residence and premises, recovering substances and materials believed to have been used to produce the drinks. The command says investigations are continuing to identify other people who may be connected to the alleged counterfeit-drinks operation.
