Gumi Claims Obasanjo Met Boko Haram Leaders Who Offered to Lay Down Arms

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo met Boko Haram leaders in Maiduguri during the early stages of the insurgency. According to Gumi, the group agreed to surrender its weapons after the meeting, but the government did not act on the proposed arrangement. He said Obasanjo was disappointed by the government's response. Gumi argued that Nigeria should consider dialogue as part of efforts to end the security crisis. He proposed a six-month amnesty period for insurgents willing to lay down their arms and urged the government to take responsibility for resolving the conflict.
