Peter Obi Says His Diaspora Remittance Remarks Were Misrepresented
Peter Obi has denied asking Nigerians living abroad to stop sending money to their families at home. He said his remarks at a Manchester town hall were about the hardship that makes many Nigerians rely on relatives overseas for basic needs. Obi said he appreciates the sacrifices of diaspora Nigerians, whose remittances often cover school fees, rent, hospital bills and feeding. He maintained that he did not ask them to abandon their loved ones. According to him, his message was that government should create jobs, improve healthcare and education, and reduce the economic hardship forcing families to depend on support from abroad.
