MOSOP Backs Ogoni-FG Dialogue, Seeks Greater Control of Ogoni Resources

MOSOP Backs Ogoni-FG Dialogue, Seeks Greater Control of Ogoni Resources

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People has reaffirmed its support for ongoing talks between Ogoni leaders and the Federal Government, describing the backing for the process as strong and irreversible. MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke said the dialogue is aimed at securing concessions that will allow Ogoni people to build systems for job creation, security, healthcare, education, electricity and infrastructure. He said the goal is not continued dependence on government handouts, but greater capacity for Ogoni communities to develop their resources and address local needs. Nsuke urged residents to reject misinformation and internal divisions that could derail the negotiations. He said the dialogue committee has submitted its report and that the next stage is to negotiate terms that deliver lasting benefits for the Ogoni people. He also accused some external actors and NGOs of attempting to frustrate the process, insisting that dialogue offers the best path towards resolving decades of poverty, unemployment and environmental challenges in Ogoniland.
