Niger Delta Stakeholders Accuse Amagbein of Orchestrating Anti-Tompolo Protests

Niger Delta Stakeholders Accuse Amagbein of Orchestrating Anti-Tompolo Protests

The Southern Ijaw Coalition, made up of youth leaders, ex-agitators and other community stakeholders, has named former militant Amagbein Endurance as the principal agitator behind recent calls to decentralise pipeline surveillance contracts. In a statement released during President Tinubu’s visit to commission projects in Bayelsa, spokesman Chief Nelson Ebi said the campaign against Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) springs from a personal feud. He accused Amagbein of funding protests and spreading negative messages about Tantita Security Services to weaken local oil production efforts. Chief Ebi warned that if the demonstrations turn violent, the federal government should hold Amagbein accountable. He also congratulated President Tinubu on the new infrastructure projects and praised Senator Douye Diri’s development record in the state.

I appreciate the question, but I'm not convinced it's purely about decentralisation; other factors could be influencing his actions.

It's interesting that youth leaders and ex-agitators are united in blaming a former militant for pipeline oversight disputes.

I'm not entirely convinced Amagbein is the main driver here; power struggles in the region could explain the protest dynamics.

Stakeholders might consider forming a joint committee to oversee contract decentralisation and ensure transparency in pipeline surveillance.
