The Federal Government has arraigned two alleged Ansaru commanders and three other suspects on fresh terrorism, kidnapping and murder charges linked to the May 2026 school abductions in Oriire LGA, Oyo State. Gunmen reportedly abducted 39 students and seven teachers from schools in Oriire. Two teachers were killed before a joint operation involving the DSS, military, police and other agencies rescued the hostages on July 10. The suspects include alleged Ansaru commanders Mahmud Usman, also known as Abu Baraa, and Mahmud al-Nigeri. Three alleged members, Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa and Shamsu Adamu Sani, were also charged. The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the five defendants to remain in DSS custody and adjourned the case until September 24 for trial.
