Shehu Sani Calls Atiku’s Fuel Subsidy Promise ‘Outright Deception’

Former Kaduna Central senator Shehu Sani has criticised ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s promise to restore fuel subsidy if elected in 2027. Sani said the pledge was a “political Trojan horse” designed to win votes. He argued that Atiku had previously supported subsidy removal, as well as economic policies associated with the World Bank and IMF. According to Sani, restoring subsidy would be difficult because Nigeria spent trillions of naira on it in the past. He also noted that subsidy removal has worsened hardship for many Nigerians and created public anger toward the current administration.
