32 Kidnap Victims Rescued After Sokoto Security Forces Repel Bandits; Four Residents Killed

32 Kidnap Victims Rescued After Sokoto Security Forces Repel Bandits; Four Residents Killed

Security operatives have rescued 32 people abducted by armed bandits during an attack on Maikujera Village in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Police said the bandits invaded the community on Tuesday, abducted residents, rustled livestock and fired at villagers. Four residents were reportedly killed before security forces arrived. The police Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Violent Crime Reaction Unit, working with troops from a nearby Army Forward Operating Base, engaged the attackers and blocked escape routes. The bandits reportedly fled into the forest, abandoning their captives and stolen livestock. The 32 victims, including six adult men and 26 women and children, were rescued unharmed and taken for medical care and psychological support. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

The rescue is welcome, but celebrating it alone should not distract from the fact that bandits still invaded, abducted people and killed residents.

Authorities should pair rescue operations with stronger local protection, rapid reporting channels and support for families affected by the attack.
