Ekiti Court Jails Man for ₦500,000 Customs Auction Car Fraud

An Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced Bethel Onyedikachi Ukachukwu to two years’ imprisonment for fraud involving a vehicle auction. Ukachukwu pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretence and dishonest conversion after collecting ₦500,000 from Kayode Aina Samuel. He claimed he would use the money to bid for a Nigeria Customs Service auctioned vehicle. The court heard that he falsely presented himself as a Nigerian Army lieutenant but neither delivered the vehicle nor returned the money. Although his counsel said he was remorseful and had made restitution, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye sentenced him to two years in prison, with an option of a ₦150,000 fine.
