49 Killed, 33 Injured as Cattle Raiders Attack South Sudan Herding Camp
At least 49 people were killed and 33 others injured after armed cattle raiders attacked a herding community in Tonj North County, Warrap State, South Sudan. Warrap State authorities said the attackers stormed a cattle camp at about 5 a.m. on Thursday. Some of the raiders were said to have come from neighbouring Unity State, although Unity State officials disputed that all the attackers were from there. Officials linked the recurring violence to the spread of firearms, as well as competition for scarce grazing land and water. Authorities in both states say they are working to identify the attackers and prevent further clashes.
