Presidency Questions Atiku’s Economic Credentials Over Fuel Subsidy Proposal
The Presidency has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his proposal to restore fuel subsidies, questioning his understanding of the policy’s economic implications. Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga said the proposal would reverse reforms and set Nigeria back. He also referred to Atiku’s early career before he joined the Nigerian Customs Service. The exchange follows Vice President Kashim Shettima’s criticism of Atiku’s economic proposals. Atiku, now the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, has continued to challenge the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy ahead of the 2027 elections.
