Rivers POCACOV Urges Youth to Reject Cultism and Drug Abuse on World Drug Day

Rivers POCACOV Urges Youth to Reject Cultism and Drug Abuse on World Drug Day

The Rivers State POCACOV Volunteer Club marked World Drug Day by calling on youths and residents to shun cultism and hard drug abuse. The initiative aligns with the UN theme “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses.” In a statement, the club commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Rivers State Commissioner of Police for their leadership in tackling drug-related crimes and cultism. It highlighted how these vices can trigger mental health disorders, premature deaths, increased crime, and undermine economic growth by deterring investment. The organisation urged commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and the public to avoid unprescribed drugs and criminal activities. It encouraged everyone to report suspicious movements or behaviour to the nearest police station or the Police Control Room emergency numbers. POCACOV reaffirmed its commitment to working with community stakeholders to sensitise young people on the dangers of drug abuse and cultism, aiming to build a safer and more peaceful society.

I'm not convinced that a single yearly event can truly change entrenched habits among youth in Rivers State.
