Boko Haram Attack Kills Vigilante Commander, Four Others in Borno
Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attacked Wumbi community in Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday night, killing a local vigilante commander and four civilians. The border community had only recently begun receiving returning farmers, who resumed cultivation under protection from the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes. Residents said the attackers appeared to have targeted the commander, while many farmers fled the area. During recovery efforts, explosives reportedly planted near the commander’s body detonated, causing further deaths and injuries among vigilantes, CJTF members and residents. Borno Police confirmed that five people were killed and said more details were being gathered. A political aspirant later visited the community to commiserate with affected families.
