Delta NLC Begins Indefinite Strike After Deputy Director’s Death
The Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has declared an indefinite strike following the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a deputy director in the Ministry of Secondary Education. The strike was announced on September 25 as civil servants protested at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba. Workers shut the entrances to the complex, disrupting official activities, and demanded assurances about their safety. Adeda reportedly died after an altercation at the secretariat. Sources alleged that he was assaulted during the incident, but the alleged assault and any direct link to his death have not been independently confirmed. Authorities have yet to provide an official account of the circumstances.
