Ex-Borno Governor Says Northerners Won’t Back Peter Obi in 2027
Ali Modu Sheriff dismissed Peter Obi’s chances in Northern Nigeria during an appearance on a Channels Television programme. He argued that many Northerners still resent Obi’s tenure as Anambra governor and would not vote for him. Sheriff also claimed that some Kano supporters of Rabiu Kwankwaso would refuse to back any alliance involving Obi. Sheriff defended President Tinubu’s handling of national security. He noted that insecurity predates the current administration and said Tinubu should be judged on new measures his government has introduced. Sheriff expressed confidence that the APC will retain power in the 2027 election.
