INEC Warns Against Threats to Electoral Officials and NYSC Members Ahead of 2027 Polls
INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan says anyone who threatens or attacks electoral officials, including NYSC members on election duty, will face legal consequences. Speaking in Port Harcourt during a South-South readiness meeting, he said INEC is working with security agencies to protect voters, personnel and election materials ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also warned INEC staff against negligence, favouritism and financial misconduct. The commission said it is improving its election technology, including 57,000 newly acquired BVAS devices, and reviewing its electronic result transmission systems. INEC also urged Nigerians to inspect the voters’ register and report errors before the final register is published on December 15, 2026. Amupitan added that INEC is strengthening logistics for riverine communities and assessing preparations across the six South-South states.
