FBI Arrests Former OpenAI Engineer Over Alleged Hidden Recording Device

US authorities have charged a former OpenAI engineer with allegedly placing a concealed recording device in a company conference room to capture sensitive discussions about the firm’s technology. The company said it discovered the device in one of its offices, reported the matter to the FBI and terminated the employee. Investigators allege the device was designed to avoid detection, with encryption and audio-monitoring capabilities. OpenAI said it has found no evidence that model weights, source code or customer data were accessed or removed. The FBI investigation is continuing.
