Wike Ally Rejects Tinubu’s Resignation Order in BCDA Leadership Standoff
The leadership tussle at the Border Communities Development Agency has intensified as Executive Secretary Dr Dakorinama Alabo George insists President Bola Tinubu’s order for political appointees to resign before contesting 2027 primaries “does not stand.” George, a former Rivers State commissioner and ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, says he never vacated his post and that the Electoral Act only requires resignation on the day of party primaries. He withdrew from the APC governorship primary in Rivers State and argues there was no legal basis for his removal. Despite the presidency’s announcement of Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as his replacement, George continues to run the agency. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga maintains Namdas is the lawful executive secretary. Legal experts are divided. Senior Advocate Salman Jawondo says the president can appoint and remove political appointees at will, while activist Hameed Ajibola Jimoh agrees the authority that hires also has the power to fire.
