Russia Dismisses US Suggestion That Ukrainian Drone Strikes Could Speed Peace Talks
Russia has firmly rejected comments from the United States that Ukrainian long-range drone attacks on Russian energy and military sites could push both sides towards peace. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the idea that increased pressure on Russia’s infrastructure would force diplomatic concessions. He warned that cross-border strikes would likely extend the conflict and said Russia may expand its security buffer in eastern Ukraine to push launch positions further back. The US backing for Kyiv’s campaign came from senior officials, including former President Trump and Senate Foreign Relations Chair Marco Rubio, who argued it could create leverage for serious negotiations. So far, strikes on oil depots and refineries have caused localized fuel shortages inside Russia.
