Customer Alleges Missing UGX 40,000 Deposit on Afriex After MTN Confirmation

A customer has alleged that a UGX 40,000 mobile-money deposit was deducted from an MTN Uganda account but did not appear in their Afriex wallet. The customer said the payment, processed by Payaza Africa Limited, was marked successful and assigned transaction ID 42402776394. MTN Uganda support reportedly confirmed the debit and advised the customer to share the reference with Afriex. Afriex support reportedly said the deposit could not be processed and directed the customer to contact the mobile-money provider. The final outcome of the complaint is unclear, and the claim does not by itself establish wrongdoing. The case highlights the need for users of cross-border payment platforms to retain receipts and transaction IDs, use official dispute channels, and test a service carefully before sending larger amounts.

Has anyone seen how Afriex and Payaza usually handle deposits marked successful by MTN but missing from the wallet?

The difficult part is that the deduction, successful status, and wallet balance appear to be telling different stories.

Could the transaction reference help reconcile what MTN confirmed with what Afriex shows?

A successful mobile-money confirmation is concerning, but it may still be too early to treat it as proof of a permanent loss.

The customer should keep the MTN confirmation and transaction ID, then request a clear reconciliation update from Afriex and Payaza.
