Claims of UK Pressure in Simon Ekpa’s Finnish Appeal Case

I have received information suggesting that the UK government may be pressuring Finland not to overturn Simon Ekpa’s conviction on appeal. A Finnish judiciary worker I met in Stockholm shared details that I consider significant, although I cannot publish every part of the information. In my view, this may reflect a pattern in which Nigeria seeks foreign support to protect economic interests. I was also told that issues connected to companies with operations in Helsinki and Stockholm may be relevant to the wider matter. I suspect this alleged pressure could help explain why a ruling in Ekpa’s appeal was reportedly postponed until September 2026. I believe foreign governments are prioritising economic interests over the insecurity affecting people in Nigeria.
