NPC Chairman Aminu Yusuf Reportedly Dies After Illness
Dr Aminu Yusuf, chairman of the National Population Commission, has reportedly died after a diabetes-related illness. A source within the commission said Yusuf died at a hospital in Abuja after falling ill five days earlier while preparing for a trip to Rwanda. He had reportedly collapsed during a public briefing in March and was taken to hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties. Yusuf was appointed NPC chairman by President Bola Tinubu in 2025 and assumed office in December. His remains were reportedly taken to Minna, Niger State, for burial. The commission had not issued an official statement as of the time of the report.
