Five Sentenced to Death in Edo Lawyer’s Abduction and Murder
The Edo State High Court in Benin City has sentenced five men to death by hanging for their roles in the abduction and killing of lawyer Iyoha Osobase. Justice Efe Ikpomwonba ruled that the prosecution proved charges of conspiracy, kidnapping and murder beyond reasonable doubt against Valentine Dibie and four others. One defendant, Solomon Esuike, was discharged and acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Osobase was kidnapped, beaten to death and buried in a shallow grave in Aduwawa, Benin City, on May 9, 2020. The trial featured former Edo State DPP Orobosa Okunbor for the prosecution and a defence team led by Douglas Ogbankwa.
