Halle Berry Denies Allegedly Choking Son as Custody Dispute Deepens

Halle Berry has denied allegations that she physically harmed her 13-year-old son, Maceo, during a disagreement over a virtual reality game. Her former husband, Olivier Martinez, had asked the court for temporary sole custody, alleging that Berry put their son in a headlock and choked him. Berry denied restricting Maceo’s breathing or putting her hands around his neck. She said they were playfully roughhousing after he grabbed her phone, but alleged that the situation escalated when he pushed her. She said her partner, Van Hunt, stepped in, and maintained that Maceo had no marks when he later returned to his father. The former couple also gave conflicting accounts of decisions surrounding Maceo’s behavioural, mental health and educational needs. A judge amended a temporary restraining order to preserve Berry’s final decision-making authority on his mental health and education pending an October 16 hearing.
