Calls for a united opposition candidate in the 2027 presidential election have resurfaced, alongside renewed support for the Ibadan Declaration. Supporters of Atiku Abubakar accused Peter Obi’s supporters of undermining the coalition by leaving the ADC and declining to sign the declaration. In response, some Obi supporters maintained that he should emerge as the sole opposition candidate. Political economist Pat Utomi said the declaration remains important for bringing opposition parties and leaders together to defend democracy and offer Nigerians a credible alternative.
