FG Clears Illegally Parked Trucks From Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

The Federal Government has begun removing heavy-duty trucks parked along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, from the Anambra border through the 9th Mile axis to Enugu metropolis. The operation is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving safety for road users. The Federal Ministry of Works is carrying out the enforcement with the FRSC, police, army and Enugu State traffic officials. Truck owners were reportedly notified before the exercise began, and vehicles that violate the directive may be impounded. Officials said truck operators should use available private and local government parking spaces pending the construction of permanent trailer parks. Market leaders welcomed the action but urged the government to provide more parking facilities, as existing spaces are already overstretched.

Will this clearance be sustained, and where will the heavy-duty trucks park afterward?

I agree, sustained enforcement and a proper alternative parking arrangement are both important here.

Clearing trucks from this corridor could ease congestion and make the route feel safer for road users.

Removal is welcome, but safety gains may not last if illegal parking simply shifts to nearby areas.

Authorities should pair enforcement with clearly designated truck parking spaces and visible signs along the expressway.
