UK Court Jails Nigerian Student for Attempted Rape and Orders Deportation
A 27-year-old Nigerian on a UK student visa has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison after being convicted of attempted rape and sexual assault in Hull Crown Court. His victim recorded him admitting guilt during a phone call, which provided key evidence at trial. Officers say the attack followed a night out, during which the woman became drunk. She was taken to the defendant’s home and led upstairs under the pretense of rest. Despite her protests, he forced himself on her before she managed to escape. She later confided in friends and reported the crime in March 2023. The court also imposed a seven-year restraining order and placed the defendant on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He will be deported to Nigeria upon completing his sentence. Detectives praised the victim’s bravery and urged anyone affected by sexual violence to report incidents to the authorities.
