Customs Seeks Freight Forwarders’ Support to Clear Outstanding Declarations in Owerri
Freight forwarding associations in Owerri have pledged to work with the new Acting Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit, Zone C, Farouk Nadaniya. At a stakeholders’ meeting, Nadaniya said closer cooperation was needed to facilitate legitimate trade, protect government revenue, enforce customs rules and tackle smuggling. He urged agents and importers to use the appropriate channels to resolve operational challenges. The acting comptroller also asked operators to clear outstanding Single Goods Declarations promptly, noting that the backlog had led to the deployment of Customs Police for revenue recovery. He said compliant traders would be supported while deliberate violations would be handled according to the law.
